MEDICAL TRANSPORT PROGRAMS
 
Flight Physiology
A through knowledge of the gas laws, oxygen requirements and the stresses of transport will enhance the care provider’s ability to provide effective care during medical transport. The participants will understand the stresses of transport, both on the ground and in the air affecting not only the ill or injured person but also all persons on board. Classroom hours: 16 hours

Pathophysiology and Care for Air, Surface
Transport Nurses

The stress of transport further impacts on those who are ill or injured. You will learn to recognize the effects on those with diseases and injuries involving one or multiple systems. With the Flight Nurses facilitators, you will learn strategies to minimize the risks with medical transport and problem-solving. Classroom hours: 32 hrs.

All systems and special needs groups are included in the program:
• Airway management and oxygen therapy
• Cardiovascular disease
• Respiratory conditions
• Neurological conditions
• Musculoskeletal injuries
• Genitourinary disease and injury
• Pediatric Transport
• Obstetrical emergencies
• Endocrine and general medical emergencies.

Preparation of Patient for Medical Transport
This course is designed for health care providers that prepare ill and injured persons for both air and ground ambulance transfers. All facilitators are air.surface transport registered nurses withy extensive knowledge and skills in air ambulance, on airlines and in the ground ambulance environment. Preparing an ill or injured person for the out-of-hospital phase of care, reducing the risks of complications and medical emergencies is the basis for this course. Classroom hours: 12 hours

Topics include:

• Modes of transport ; identifying times, space and resources on board
• Documents, medical records and reports
• Medical equipment and supplies
• Risk management
• Patient preparation
• Post transfer and emergencies

 

Trauma Management for Air. Surface Transport Nurses

The course is provides the transport nurse with the assessment and management skills to transport trauma patients either by air or land ambulance. Educators include physicians, paramedics, flight nurse and ER nurses. Classroom hours: 16 hours

• Airway management
• Shock
• Thoracic Trauma
• Abdominal Trauma
• Head and Spinal Cord Trauma
• Extremity Injuries
• Burns and Cold Injuries
• Stabilization and Transport
• Testing
